With movies like House on Haunted Hill (1999), Parasomnia, and FearDotCom on his resume, you’d think Hollywood would be knocking on filmmaker William Malone’s door, but alas, that’s not the world we live in anymore.  Instead, a guy like Malone is left with few options to get his movies financed nowadays, which is why he’s turned to crowdfunding.

If you’ve been a fan of his work over the years, then read on to see how you can help him open Thallium’s Box.

From the project’s Kickstarter page:
What’s in Thallium’s Box? Only writer/director William Malone could weave such a mesmerizing terror fest about two innocents who battle to survive the monstrous horror that haunts the halls, nooks and crannies of a decrepit urban hotel. Only Malone could dream up the colorful characters – good and very bad – which inhabit this ghostly world of strange, sensual, nightmarish visions and violent, horrifying death. It all begins with down-on-his-luck Owen, who answers an ad in the newspaper and gets a job at Luminous Processes, painting luminescent watch dials while dressed like a nightmarish bug. He then moves into The Dark Curtain Hotel, where many of the Luminous workers live. There he meets love interest Alice Finch and also Jade and Silk, the sexy twins from across the hall. Soon, he encounters the mysterious Professor Thallium, collector of oddities, who needs a favor – it’s a favor that may end his life.

Thallium’s Box is a feature horror film that blends the strange eccentric horror of the 70s and 80s with vividly fresh new terror in a way is that is unlike anything you have seen before.  Writer/director William Malone has long been a purveyor of all things horror. He created a series of horror characters for Don Post Studios for nearly a decade in the 1970s. He is the man who sculpted the original Michael Myers Mask for John Carpenter’s Halloween. He then went on to directing such projects as Parasomnia, “Tales from the Crypt,” House on Haunted Hill, FearDotCom, “Masters of Horror” and many others.  He is also an ardent collector of film props including the original Robby the Robot from Forbidden Planet.

Risks and Challenges:
During the shooting of the promo for Thallium’s Box, over 16 minutes of the film’s estimated 90 minutes of running time has already been completed. Over the years Malone has amassed enough production gear to be almost completely independent, including a post-production facility. The funds raised here will be used primarily for paying crew, actors, catering, insurance, location costs and a few rentals such as vans and vehicles.

Any film is a challenge to complete, but Malone and his team have successfully produced many films, including the highly-acclaimed Parasomnia. Malone as a director is responsible for the Warner Bros. release House on Haunted Hill, which attained #1 in the US box office and ultimately created the “Halloween Release.” HHH held the spot as Halloween Box Office champ for over 8 years.

Additionally, Robert Parigi has extensive experience as producer on numerous TV shows over the years and is currently a producer on “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”  Robert (a talented director in his own right) is a great asset to Thallium’s Box.
