‘Tower Of Terror’: Taika Waititi Reportedly Still Directing For Disney

Disney is fast at work adapting its most beloved attractions into modern cinematic reboots. With Jungle Cruise wrapped, and The Haunted Mansion in production, the next ride the Mouse has his eyes on is Tower of Terror.

We’ve checked in with TheDisInsider who report that Taika Waititi is now directing one of Disney’s most beloved gateway horror properties.

Not long ago Tower of Terror officially signed on megastar Scarlet Johansson for the leading role. She was also set to produce the forthcoming theatrical reboot. However, drama surrounding the upcoming project spiked when Johansson famously filed a lawsuit against the House of Mouse concerning Black Widow‘s streaming access. Alas, the Avengers: Eng Game star then publically ended her feud with Disney via this Hollywood Reporter article, which also reported she would still be entering the Tower of Terror.

Toy Story 4 writer Josh Cooley is writing the screenplay for the film and that is still certainly underway.

A Man About Town

Waititi has been up to major projects in the past ten years. The director’s last film, Jojo Rabbit, took home Best Adapted Screenplay at the 2020 Academy Awards. It too starred Scarlet Johansson. The feature also earned the filmmaker a Best Picture nomination.

But, perhaps most impressive was Waititi’s turn creating Thor: Ragnarok for the Disney-owned Marvel universe.

Tower of Terror is the famous Disney parks attraction that first appeared at Disney Hollywood Studios back in 1994. The fatal attraction was subsequently franchised into a number of international Disney parks. It was recently repurposed as a Guardians of the Galaxy ride at the Disney California Aventure park.

The Twilight Zone-themed attraction was first adapted as a 1997 made-for-TV event starring Kirsten Dunst.
