It’s Dread Central’s Super Sweet 16!

Dread Central birthday shark

This year, the Fourth of July doesn’t feel like a holiday worth celebrating, at least in the patriotic sense. But, today marks something even more important than America’s independence: Dread Central’s birthday! And this year, it’s our super sweet 16th birthday, which means we can officially drive. Look out everyone, we’re about to hit the road.

Jokes aside, for the past 16 years, Dread Central has been a pillar in the horror community; a place to not only get your horror news but to learn about the latest horror movies you’ve never heard of. We’ve been champions of indie horror film and we only hope to continue that for 16 more years to come.

I started at Dread Central almost one year ago in August 2021. It’s always been my dream to work in horror journalism, and I’ve been living that dream for almost 12 months. I’ve been able to work with some of the best writers in the game, including our staff writers Sharai Bohannon, Chad Collins, Tyler DoupĂ©, and Drew Tinnin, and our managing editor (and my partner in horror crime), Josh Korngut. And of course, I’ve learned so much from Dread Central’s co-founder Jon Condit.

My goal has been to take Dread Central to the next level in terms of editorial coverage and the voices we champion on a daily basis. Horror is fun, but it’s also incredibly political and meaningful to every one of us who cherishes the genre. I want the site to reflect the duality of horror, a terrifying yet fun experience that speaks so deeply to the horrors of being alive. I’m so incredibly proud of the work we’ve done, and today seems like a great day to celebrate that.

So, press pause on your annual rewatch of Jaws and raise a glass. To Dread Central, to horror movies, and to many more years of celebrating the best genre in the world.
