Sloven (Short)

SlovenStarring Baker Chase Powell, Erynn Petrulis, Scott Aschenbrenner

Directed by Marc Cartwright

I’m fairly sure that “The Odd Couple” didn’t have this much of a problem assessing blame as to who the slob was in their apartment! Written and directed by Marc Cartwright comes Sloven, a six-minute quickie about someone (or something) that is causing quite a mess for his/its roommate.

Steve (Powell) is a young professional who is living in an apartment with an unseen roomie, and needless to say, the framework for cleanliness about their abode is less than satisfactory. Strewn garbage, eaten food left out, and perhaps Steve’s biggest peeve: Someone has downed his booze and smoked his weed… a most unforgivable offense.

The only question remains: Who’s to blame for these slovenly instances? The answer might surprise you; then again, you very well could see this one coming a mile away. Anyhow, the short is extremely clean to look at, with quite the professional display put on by Cartwright, and whether or not you dig his sense of directorial method, you’ve got to applaud how he makes it look, and that’s why I’ll toss in a couple of positive points for this one.

Worth a look if you get the chance – what else do you have going on for six measly minutes?
