Savage Dragon #225 Gets A Hardcore NSFW Cover

Image Comics are celebrating the 25th anniversary of Savage Dragon with a spectacular 100 page 225th issue, which will feature one incredibly NSFW cover which was revealed by Syfy Wire before creator Erik Larsen shared it on his Twitter account. It was drawn by artist Rafael Krás, and I really advise you not to scroll down if you’re at work.

In an article posted on Image Comics’ website, Larsen weighed in on the rather naughty cover, saying:

“Sometimes I do things just because it amuses me. Image has done a few NSFW covers of late, and while they certainly qualify as NSFW, they haven’t been especially raunchy. The thought of some reader unwrapping this from its plastic sheath and doing a spit-take makes me laugh,” said Larsen. “I love comics—all comics. Every kind of comic book. If it’s well done, you can count me in as a fan. Love the underground comics from the ’60s and ’70s. Love European comics. I love a good superhero comic. I love a good horror comic. I love a good fantasy comic. I love a good Western comic. I love a good sex comic. I love a good comic—period. Love ‘em all.

Rafael Krás does amazing porn comics. He drew a Dart story for me, years ago, teamed with relative newcomer Rafael Albuquerque. Rafael Krás went one direction, and Rafael Albuquerque went another, and I’ve followed both of their careers with interest. In any case, having seen some other NSFW covers and knowing Rafael Krás’ work, I thought it’d be fun to really raise the bar and see what happens. Heh.”

First discovered on a burning field (his origins are mostly kept a mystery), the green-skinned creature known as Savage Dragon would go on to become one of the most respected members of the Chicago Police Department. He first appeared first appeared in his own eponymous comic back in 1992, which took place in Image Comic’s shared universe continuity, which also included Spawn and Youngblood, with whom he has crossed paths several times.

Savage Dragon #225 (pre-order) will go on sale on 26 July for $11.99. The retail version won’t contain the censor bars on the cover, but if you don’t want to be caught buying something so raunchy looking, rest assured that the cover will be hidden by a warning label (pictured below), which you’ll be able to remove when you get home.
