RKO announces Roseblood, Lewton remakesWow, how touching is it that horror is what brought RKO and the Writers’ Guild together for an interim agreement that will allow them to keep making movies? They were able to get together, hold hands once again if you will, all in the name of getting some horror out the door.

This morning Variety reports that shortly after striking a deal with the Guild, RKO announced the formation of Roseblood Movie Co., a subsidiary of RKO that will specialize in the remaking of films originally done by Val Lewton back in the studio’s heyday. Under the Roseblood banner we can look forward to new versions of Lady Scarface, being written by Tom Puryear, While the City Sleeps written by Shin Shimosawa and Jim Morris, The Monkey’s Paw written by Jason X penner Todd Farmer and The Seventh Victim, which is without a writer as of now.

They’re also working on new versions of I Walked With a Zombie (which we told you about back here), Body Snatcher, Bedlam and Five Came Back.

Of course it’s nice to think that they got through the writers’ strike just so they could make these movies because of their love for horror, but you and I both know it’s all about the bottom line here; horror sells, especially remakes, and they were sitting on piles of potential profits while the Guild fought out their battle.

Production on the first Roseblood Movie Co. picture will begin this fall; keep it here for all the details as we learn ’em!
