Director Ritchie Filippi Talks The Eve; Exclusive Poster Debut and Stills

New Year’s Eve sometimes yields worse things than introspective melancholia, hangovers and/or regretful one-night stands, as is the case in Ritchie Filippi’s upcoming horror feature The Eve. Read on for the one-sheet debut and several stills.
Written by producer and The Eve star Evan Bass and additionally produced by Angel L. Acevedo and David M. Rheingold, The Eve features cinematography by Brian C. Harnick and editing by Jess King with a score by Kenneth Hampton. The story revolves around a group of friends who, while celebrating New Year’s Eve on a remote island off of Martha’s Vineyard, find themselves marauded by an unforeseen presence which halts their celebration and turns their holiday into a fight to live through to the new year.
Al Thompson, Maria DiDomenico, Miranda Noelle Wilson, Rick Estabrook, Margaux Kelley, and Jody Mullins round out the cast.
“I’ve always been a huge fan of horror movies,” stated director Filippi of his attraction to helming The Eve. “Back at Hofstra University I met and worked with Angel Acevedo, The Eve producer, on a few horror shorts. Flash forward nearly a decade, and I get a call out of the blue from him asking me to read a script and seeing if I’d be interested in heading out to the middle of nowhere to shoot a horror movie.”
“The Eve movie was written as a throwback to Hitchcock flicks with a bit of the early slashers,” the director continued. “I love that the script had these likable but flawed characters who are stuck in a situation that is completely out of their hands. Trapped in the middle of nowhere, and your friends are being hunted down. How would I react in this same situation? The movie was inspired by Psycho, The Shining, and Jaws, all of which we paid homage to in the film. We even shot at one of the same locations used in Jaws.”
Financed via crowd-sourcing and private investors and currently in post-production, Filippi said of his hopes for The Eve, “I’d like people to see and to enjoy the film. I believe the current plan is to target a few select smaller festivals and to partner with a distributor from there. The Eve isn’t a big, loud, gory movie that someone will pick up and convert to 3D in order to have chainsaws slicing at the audience. It’s a smaller movie about the isolation of being stuck on an island with nowhere to go and someone after you. I would be just as happy with people watching the movie with their lights off at home as I would them watching it in a theater.”
