Tape Urges “Be Kind, Rewind” This April

SIE EspaƱa and BlackChiliGoat will be bringing Tape to Steam and the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles this April. Check out the reveal trailer, where there’s no need to hit a rewind button thanks to modern video technology.

Tape is a first person psychological thriller. Players step into the shoes of Iria, a young girl attempting to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance. Iria has one special power at her disposal, though. She can rewind, pause, or fast forward objects in time to find the truth. With an old Super8 camera, Iria will solve puzzles and unearth the memories that led to her father’s vanishing. Each location Iria observes takes inspiration from her father’s past works as an accomplished horror movie director. Putting these fragments together will prove vital in Iria’s search for answers. All of this takes place in northern Spain during the 1990s, a unique setting ripe for the surreal thrills to come.

You know, I’m beginning to suspect that the disappearance of Iria’s father wasn’t quite natural.

While there isn’t a specific date in April announced just yet, you should look forward to it in the next few weeks. Tape is a part of the PlayStation Talents program, which helps foster creativity and bring Spanish projects and developers to light. The program supports local industries by having video games completely developed in Spain for worldwide distribution. The program launched in 2015 by Sony Interactive Entertainment Spain.

Tape: Unveil the Memories comes from BlackChiliGoat Studio, an indie team based out of Madrid. This is their first project in collaboration with PlayStation Talents. The studio strives to marry innovative mechanics with quality storytelling. Accolades include “Most Innovative Game” in 2017 from Premios PlayStation, “Best Game,” from Dev Contact in 2018, and “Best Elevator Pitch” at the Guerrilla Game Festival in 2019.
