Happy Cloud Pictures Prepping Not-So-Happy Razor Days

Pennsylvania-based independent production company Happy Cloud Pictures is set to begin production on its sixth feature film, Razor Days, a grim story of survival and revenge starring Amy Lynn Best and Debbie Rochon.
Razor Days represents quite a departure from the hybrid films Happy Cloud is known for (i.e., the “zombie-noir” The Resurrection Game, the meta-fictional Splatter Movie: The Director’s Cut, the horror-comedies Severe Injuries and Demon Divas and the Lanes of Damnations) and is set in the very real world.
From the Press Release:
Razor Days tells the story of three women, each a survivor of horrific violence, who bond together first for support and then to exact revenge on those responsible for their horrific pasts, including a group of cannibalistic “weekend warriors”. This gritty, character-driven thriller begins production in mid-November.
“We’ve been developing this script for six or seven years now,” says writer-director Mike Watt. “Originally, we pitched it as ‘what happens after the end of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre’, focusing on how survivors of such things could possibly put their lives back together and how violence infects all parts of someone’s life. As the script evolved, we moved away from the notion of the fantastical inbred mutants that are the hallmarks of these types of stories and chose to present the majority of the tale through the eyes of the victims. The cannibals are really the least of their problems.”
With such an intense storyline, the Happy Cloud principals—Best, Watt and Bill Homan—knew that the new movie would require a unique visual approach. To that end they sought out the assistance of some of the most talented and interesting names in independent cinema today. Alan Rowe Kelly (I’ll Bury You Tomorrow) signed on early as a producer, effects artist and takes on a featured role in the film; the movie’s look will be courtesy of both Dominic Sivilli (The Tell-Tale Heart) and Bart Mastronardi (Vindication), each of whom are providing the film’s separate sections’ distinct and striking atmospheres. Rounding out the creative team are Jeff Monahan (John Sayles’ Lone Star, writer and co-director of George A. Romero Presents Deadtime Stories) and David Marancik (Jeremiah Kipp’s Sadist). Special make-up effects are designed by award-winning artist Gino Crognale (Sorority Row, The Devil’s Rejects). Razor Days is executive-produced by Robert A. Kuiper.
