This weekend, you can put your horror-loving heart to good use and check out Futures Explored’s new feature, The Grove. Making its debut today on Wicked Horror TV and POV Horror, the found-footage shocker follows Larry as he investigates the infamous Grove Hotel to uncover the circumstances surrounding his girlfriend Sarah’s mysterious death. Check out the trailer here:

Futures Explored Film and Media Studio is a film school for adults with developmental disabilities. The non-profit vocational school has three sites in Sacramento, Stockton, and Livermore with more than 100 students actively learning the filmmaking process. Most of the proceeds from the film are going toward supporting the school and its mission. Rob Livings, a production coordinator at Futures Explored Film & Media Studio, noted, “The Grove gave our students a lot of independence, and I’m very proud of what they achieved. The great thing with found footage is that the crew are often cast in the film, so on this shoot for a majority of it, the crew were filming independently without being shadowed by instructors.”

Found footage horror has been a hit lately, with recent releases like The Outwaters showing just how much life is left in the once ubiquitous style. The Grove seems to hit all the marks, satisfying the scare quotient while doing some good in the process. Those interested can visit Futures Explored’s donation page to support the school and filmmakers here. Supporting the film has the added benefit of supporting burgeoning genre filmmakers with unique perspectives adding to the genre we all know and love.

The Grove is presently available to stream on Wicked Horror TV and POV Horror with a planned release on major digital platforms later this summer.
