‘The Outwaters’: Watch The Trailer For The Highly Anticipated Found Footage Nightmare

The Outwaters

Director Robbie Banfitch’s feature film debut The Outwaters is a nightmare. And that’s meant as the highest compliment. Part found footage film, part cosmic horror, this new found footage film shakes the foundations of how we think about the subgenre. After a successful run, The Outwaters opens in select theaters beginning February 9 from Cinedigm and Bloody Disgusting. Following its theatrical run, it will stream exclusively on Screambox.

Read the film’s full synopsis:

Memory cards unearthed in a remote stretch of the Mojave Desert tell the story of four travelers who vanished during a sun-drenched camping trip. One night, everything changes when the foursome is sent on a mind-bending voyage of unrelenting terror into a world of darkness that no human was ever meant to see.

In her review of the film, Dread Central’s Mary Beth McAndrews wrote:

Robbie Banfitch’s The Outwaters is difficult to describe. It’s beautiful, disgusting, and wholly unpredictable. It’s horrific cosmic horror wrapped in the blue plastic material of the camping tent we see in most found footage movies. The Outwaters presents itself as a typical found footage narrative but quickly subverts those expectations with shrieking, tentacles, and a slew of utterly nightmarish imagery.

Banfitch said of the film, “It’s been a longtime dream to make a scary movie. I’m grateful that people will have a chance to watch The Outwaters on the silver screen. Because we need that. All of us. Somehow, terror feels good in a place like this.”

The Outwaters stars Banfitch, Angela Basolis, Michelle May, Scott Schamell, and Leslie Ann Banfitch and features original music by Salem Belladonna. Beau J. Genot and Banfitch produced the film with Robert Abramoff serving as executive producer.
