Stay Out Of The Woods: We’re Getting A New ‘Blair Witch’ Film

Blair Witch Project

It’s a good week for found footage fans! According to CBR.com via Production Weekly, a beloved 1999 entry point for many of us into that subgenre is on track to get another sequel. That’s right, ghouls! A new Blair Witch movie is in the works

According to the site, Oliver Park is supposed to helm this next movie in the franchise. Park is known for Still and The Offering, so he’s no stranger to the horror world. He may just be a very cool choice to resurrect this particular IP.

For the uninitiated, the original film follows three film students that get lost in the woods as they try to investigate a local legend. Their quest to get the Blair Witch on camera leads them to more than they bargained for.

The Blair Witch Project was written and directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez. It stars Heather Donahue, Michael Williams, and Joshua Leonard.

The film revitalized the found footage subgenre. However, it is mostly known for the marketing campaign that led moviegoers to believe the film was actual footage of missing people. It spawned two sequels Book of Shadows and Blair Witch (2016).

Because the last installment came out in 2016, some of us were starting to give up hope that we’d get another installment during this lifetime. Luckily, the folks at Lionsgate have other plans.

The first two films are currently streaming on Prime Video, The Roku Channel, and Redbox, with the third movie on HBOMax.
