Not of This Earth is out of this world!

“I directed the original Not of This Earth in 1957, a film which uniquely combined sci-fi and vampire genres. When director Jim Wynorski first approached me to remake the film, I was skeptical of messing with a classic. However, Jim convinced me with some interesting casting choices, including 20-year-old Traci Lords in the Beverly Garland role.” — Roger Corman

In Los Angeles, a mysterious stranger (Arthur Roberts, Cheech & Chong’s Up in Smoke, Revenge of the Ninja) arrives in town and hires Nadine Story (Lords) as his private nurse. Although the pay is great, she becomes more and more suspicious of this mysterious stranger when his requests for blood transfusions become more frequent and insistent. After some amateur detective work, Nadine finds out that her new boss is not who — or what — he appears to be. In fact, he’s from another world!

Not of This Earth was a remake of executive producer Corman’s 1957 sci-fi horror classic, which he had himself produced and directed. Eager to capitalize on the thrills and chills of the original story while adding a fresh, more contemporary layer of black comedy and camp humor, Corman tapped producer/director Wynorski to take on the project. Not only did Wynorski accept the challenge of remaking one of his mentor’s most popular early films, but he vowed his could do it in less time than Corman had, 31 years before! According to Hollywood legend, the original film took Corman 12 days to make, and the remake took Wynorski 12 days to make!

The film marked Traci Lords’ transition from adult film roles to mainstream roles. Not only did she contribute a generous dose of beauty and sex appeal, as well as a dollop of box-office-friendly controversy, but the actress proved the naysayers wrong by impressing critics and audiences alike with a witty, sassy performance as the quick-thinking heroine, Nadine Story.

Not of This Earth proceeded to break box-office records with an immediate profit that paid for its production within days … if not hours!
