Thanks to the success of It and the bizarre behavior of some eccentric individuals, clowns have gotten a pretty bad rap as of late. So much so that apparently the clown industry has taken a big hit. And that’s a damn shame, because clowns perform and important public service. We all need more laughter in our lives.

Filmmakers Nathan Ray Clark and E-Kan Soong decided to create a short documentary following the lives of real life clowns to showcase their recent struggles in society. Called No Laughing Matter: Tears of a Clown, the nine minute film is now available to watch on YouTube, and should hopefully make you think twice before you cosplay as Pennywise or the Joker.

No Laughing Matter: Tears of a Clown is embedded below, and you can also follow the film on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
