Alawar has presented us with another fun game from their massive library of entertaining titles. Natural Threat: Ominous Shores takes you to a forgotten island located somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. The mysterious island is home to some incredible fascinating wildlife and the site of a secret laboratory that is ran by one of the game’s main protagonists the famous botanist Professor Steiner.
You play as Professor Steiner’s assistant in the game. When your friends turn up missing, you set out to the darkest parts of the island in search for them. The rescue mission will take you all over the island, and you’ll have to solve many puzzles and search scenes for items that will aid you in your quest. The vegetation in the area has been genetically altered and mutated to dangerous levels, so making your way through the islands vast jungles will be no easy feat. The game’s storyline is just another example of a great Alawar storyline, and it’ll keep you fully immersed in the game until the epic ending of the game.
One of the best additions this game makes over its predecessors is in the addition of useful items placed in every area of the game. Rather than limiting inventory items to hidden scenes, they are now scattered even in the normal zones. This means you have to always be aware of your surroundings, or you may miss an important item. This is just another wrinkle added that makes an already extremely fun game that much better. The addition of enhanced lists of items is found in the game as well.
The game allows you to select from two specific difficulties–casual and expert. Casual makes the game a whole lot easier by recharging the hint meter more quickly and highlighting important areas in the game. Expert mode takes away the highlighted areas, adds in a penalty for too many bad clicks and causes the hint meter to recharge slower. The two difficulties allow players of any skill level to enjoy all of the excitement the game has to offer.
With all of the new enhancements made to the gameplay mechanics, Natural Threat: Ominous Shores is the best game Alawar has offered up yet.
