This week Michael Greenspan’s latest thriller, Kill for Me, arrived on DVD everywhere courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. Read on for our exclusive interview with the director and co-writer of the film.

Co-written by Greenspan and Christopher Dodd, the film follows two young women who find strength together after both struggling against physical and mental abuse by the men in their lives.

Dread Central recently caught up with Greenspan to discuss Kill for Me and much more- check out the highlights below from our exclusive interview, and look for the thriller now that it’s available everywhere on DVD!

Dread Central: What inspired you and Christopher (Dodd) to write the story for Kill for Me?

Michael Greenspan: Well, the movie starts off in some pretty typical territory – two strangers moving in together – so what we were interested in was what happens next? What can we do with that idea? The original concept is really about these two women sharing this pain of abuse that they both suffer from the men in their lives. They barely know each other, but because of this common bond things escalate very quickly between them. That being said, we also wanted to keep a sense of realism to the story because it needed to feel authentic in order for these murky relationships to work. That’s something I strived for in Wrecked, and that’s something I wanted to bring into this movie as well.

Dread Central: There’s a lot of violence in Kill for Me, but none of it ever felt gratuitous at all- was that conscious on your part since the story you’re telling here is a bit more deliberate than a slasher movie or something like that?

Michael Greenspan: It was; the violence was essential to the story just because of what these women were going through, but again, it was all about realism. They had to fight realistically and react to certain situations like someone really would- we couldn’t lose that at all or the movie wouldn’t have worked. And thankfully both Katie (Cassidy) and Tracy (Spiridakos) really committed to these characters and worked really hard at everything from their performances to their fight scenes to their onscreen relationship.

Dread Central: Katie did a great job, but I thought Tracy was particularly fearless in this; can you talk about the complexity she brought to this role?

Michael Greenspan: Yeah, Tracy was amazing in this; I know Katie’s more well known, but I think it’s only a matter of time before Tracy breaks out, too. She just came at this role without any reservations and embraced this huge spectrum of emotions her character brought into the story. She was fearless and just wonderful to work with; Donal (Logue), too. He really gave his monster a lot of heart ,which added an entirely different facet to that character than I was expecting. Everyone was just phenomenal to work with really.

Dread Central: What’s coming up next for you then? Any new projects on the horizon you can talk about?

Michael Greenspan: I’ve got a couple of things I’m working on right now- a couple of thrillers including a sci-fi one that I’m really excited about. Nothing I can really talk about yet though.

Synopsis:
While trying to move on from an abusive ex-boyfriend, Amanda (Cassidy) looks for a roommate to help pay the rent. Hailey (Spiridakos) just moved to college to get away from her own abusive past. When Amanda’s abusive ex-boyfriend catches up with her, a riveting roller coaster of suspense and twists is set in motion. In order to survive, the two girls face their harrowing past together. But as Hailey’s past becomes more transparent, it’s difficult to decipher who is the victim and who is the cold-blooded killer.
