LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS: Billy Porter Compares His Audrey II to The Devil

A remake of Little Shop of Horrors is headed our way with Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johanson, Chris Evans, and Billy Porter as the voice of Audrey II. And today Porter compares his take on the killer planet to the devil.

He tells Collider: “I just approached it from the standpoint of what it truly is; it’s kind of like the Faustian story. It’s kind of like the devil story. Like, ‘Sell your soul to me and I’ll give you everything you want.’ He’s a villain! And I don’t get to play villains very often, so get ready because he’s gonna be everything. All of the things! I’m gonna use all of the different ranges of the voice!

The story centers on a meek flower shop assistant named Seymour who pines for his co-worker Audrey. During a total eclipse, he discovers an unusual plant he names Audrey II, which feeds only on human flesh and blood. The growing plant attracts a great deal of business for the previously struggling store. After Seymour feeds Audrey’s boyfriend, Orin, to the plant after Orin’s accidental death, he must come up with more bodies for the increasingly bloodthirsty plant.
