Netflix’s New GUNDAM Movie Snags KONG: SKULL ISLAND Director

Netflix has snagged director Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) to helm their live-action Gundam movie. Brian K. Vaughan (Y: The Last Man) is set to pen the script.

Netflix broke the news. They also sent out a tweet, which read: “Grab your Mobile suits! Jordan Vogt-Roberts has been set to direct and produce Legendary’s first-ever live-action feature film version of Sunrise’s GUNDAM for Netflix.”

Gundam is a Japanese military science fiction franchise. Created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and also Sunrise, the franchise features giant robots, or mecha, with the name “Gundam”. The franchise began with Mobile Suit Gundam (1979). The series spawned a franchise that includes 50 TV series, films, manga, novels, and also video games.

Meanwhile, Vogt-Roberts’ King Kong reboot starred Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, John Goodman, Brie Larson, Toby Kebbell, and also John C. Reilly.

It begins when scientists, soldiers, and also adventurers unite to explore a mythical, uncharted island in the Pacific Ocean. Cut off from everything they know, they venture into the domain of the mighty Kong, igniting the ultimate battle between man and nature. As their mission of discovery soon becomes one of survival, they must fight to escape from a primal world where humanity does not belong.

The film sports a 75% over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: Offering exhilarating eye candy, solid acting, and a fast-paced story, it earns its spot in the movie monster’s mythos without ever matching up to the classic original.
