No, Syfy isn’t running a campaign to drain you of your life’s blood; what we have here is a new series heading our way entitled “Blood Drive,” and its leading lady has been found!

Per Deadline, Spanish actress Christina Ochoa (“Animal Kingdom”) will be the female lead opposite Alan Ritchson in “Blood Drive,” the network’s new 13-episode grindhouse-inspired series.

Set in a near-apocalyptic future in Los Angeles, “Blood Drive” centers on Arthur Bailey (Ritchson), a former cop who is now working for a private security company. He partners with Grace (Ochoa), a dangerous femme fatale who has an agenda of her own.

Grace, who volunteered to participate in the deadly Blood Drive, an underground death race in which the cars run on human blood, needs the winnings to help her beloved sister; and she’s willing to face death on a daily basis for the mere chance of victory. When she’s forced to partner with former police officer Arthur, she’s not thrilled, to say the least. Grace may soon learn that this genuinely moral and nice guy is a determined survivor, just like she is, and that she may have more in common with him than she had ever imagined.

Born in Barcelona, Spain, Ochoa is the grandniece of Nobel Prize winner Severo Ochoa and daughter of Spanish sculptor Victor Ochoa.

“Blood Drive” is from executive producers John Hlavin (Underworld: Awakening, “The Shield”) and David Straiton (“Bates Motel,” “Hemlock Grove”), who directs. James Roland wrote the pilot under Hlavin’s supervision and also serves as supervising producer. Fredrik Malmberg (Conan the Barbarian) and Mark Wheeler are producers. Universal Cable Productions is the studio.
