‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’ Trailer — It’s All Fun And Games Until You Kill Your Best Friend

A24 heard we wanted a slasher and this summer they’re giving us one. This indie production juggernaut is behind iconic contemporary horror films like Hereditary and The Witch. Now, they’re venturing out of the serious “elevated” horror with Halina Reijn’s Bodies Bodies Bodies. It’s all neon lights, lines of coke, and rich kid resentment all the way down.

When a group of rich 20-somethings plans a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game goes awry in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong.
In his review out of SXSW, Drew Tinnin said of the film:
[Screenwriter Sarah] DeLappe demonstrates an uncanny knack for writing dialogue for millennials that feels natural without becoming too weighed down with cliched buzz words. Terms like agency, gaslighting and toxicity are introduced by characters that are living with these descriptors even when they don’t fully understand them.

Rich kids with too much free time, too many drugs, and too many Instagram followers? Sounds like the perfect satire for our digital age. Not to mention that the trailer cleverly highlights the comedic use of phrases such as”you’re triggering me” and “I can’t believe you’re making this about you.” And we get to watch Pete Davidson play a parody of himself when he says he looks like he fucks. Oh, and Lee Pace plays a long-haired stoner. The reasons for loving Bodies Bodies Bodies just keep stacking up.
The female leads are also stacked, with Amandla Stenberg, Maria Bakalova, Myha’la Herrold, Chase Sui Wonders, and Rachel Sennott playing the group of girlfriends. Sennott, fresh off the darkly comic Shiva Baby, looks like a particular standout with her glowsticks and hysterical crying.
Bodies Bodies Bodies hits theaters on August 5.
