International Horror Cinema at SHOCKFEST Vegas From Around The World

Horror is experienced by every person of every culture out there, and Shockfest wishes to share a sample of what diverse cultures find frightening in a lethal block of horror movies created by individuals from around the world. Shockfest Film Festival reveals seven international horror films to be screened at the Hotel Paranormal this November 22nd – 24th in Las Vegas. This international lineup consists of seven of the best examples of the genre from around the globe and each one will be available to watch at the Hotel Paranormal itself over Shockfest weekend.

(1) Dissonance (India) by Ashish Ranjan (WORLD PREMIER)

What makes Dissonance such an interesting watch is the main subject is a special ops. soldier, armed to the gills, and trained to take on any clear and present threat, yet he is alone, scared and unsure of what is waiting for him out in the woods. Written and Directed by Ashish Ranjan, Dissonance presents a world where even the most prepared are unsure of their own future or safety, which is easily one of the scariest situations we’ve all faced at least once in our lives. And if you haven’t you are sure to sometime in your own future. This film from India is set for a world premiere at Shockfest, where audiences will see it for the very first time.

(2) Milk (Canada) by Santiago Menghini

From its very first second to its final shot, Milk creates an immediate sense of uncertainty and unease for anyone who watches. Santiago Menghini knows the horror genre and uses every storytelling tool at his disposal to create a legitimately terrifying sense of dread in a short, sweet and to the point experience for all to enjoy. The terror of this film settles beneath your skin and follows you home from the theater, as you return to your regular life and begin to question who…or what may be waiting for you in the dark as you prepare yourself to go to bed? This masterfully produced horror short is set for an official feature length adaptation by acclaimed Director James Wan (The Conjuring, The Nun, Saw) and produced by New Line Cinema.

(3) The Peephole (Mexico) by Enrique Manzo Escamilla

The Peephole takes the format of a campfire tale and translates it to a modern, grim and gritty setting with a legitimate threat that reveals itself to be far more powerful and mysterious than initially perceived. For those who live in an apartment-style complex, it begs the question, “who really are the people I am living amongst?” But halfway through the film, the question is no longer about whom you are living with, but what is the history of the facility you actually living in? A spooky and twisting terror tale, The Peephole will keep you from ever eavesdropping on the mysterious noises you hear in your hallway at night, probably for the rest of your life.

(4) Troll Bridge (Australia) by Daniel Knight

Troll Bridge is a fun-filled fantasy, with incredible production value, utilizing both amazing practical effects and engaging CGI that blends smoothly from start to finish. This film is not just fun, but very pretty to watch, with engaging characters, iconic costume design and a gorgeous winter setting, which looks quite at home in a Middle Earth-type environment. Though the main characters all share a gruff and rugged exterior, it is revealed through the darkly comical story, the trials and tribulations such characters are forced to face on a daily bases including adapting to an ever-changing world of industrialization. Troll Bridge leaves the audience questioning what truly makes a hero, is it the bravery to face a terrifying foe, the patience one must have when listening to those around them or the kindness one pays to a stranger, who may not necessarily be perceivably in need?

(5) Lonely Gal (Denmark) by Peder Pedersen

Look out old school fans! Lonely Gal is a throwback music video featuring the Punk Rock Rockabilly band POWERSOLO. This music video is an homage to the horror movies of the silver screen during the first half of the 20th century such as Frankenstein and Night of the Living Dead. The music’s surfabilly “Cramps” style avant-garage sound fits in nicely with the black and white, high contrast shots presented on the screen. If you ever wanted to capture the feel of a late-night drive in to the double feature horror picture show, look no further than to the spooky scene presented in Peder Pedersen’s Music Video, with a touch of modern-day social commentary.

(6) Madame (France) by Marine Dorfmann

Madame shares a peek into the world of an upper-class old biddy with a disturbing backstory. Though she treats the people around her with a distinct lack of respect, It is steadily revealed what makes this old woman such a terror to the world. A haunting piece about ghosts from another time and place, Madame is a unique and fitting addition to the international lineup for Shockfest Vegas at the Hotel Paranormal.

(7) Non E Vero (Ukraine) by Sergiy Pudich

An intimidating watch with a legitimately frightening monster. Non E Vero is a pleasant and terrifying slice-of-life piece about a young girl spending the evening with her Grandpa, only to be haunted by a dark and sinister presence. A fun and terrifying film that twists just enough to leave you guessing all the way until the end.
