Fans Are Loving Hyper-Violent New Animated Series on HBO Max: “Hooked from minute one”

Hbo Max animated series

Here at Dread Central, I’ve had the chance to occasionally spotlight some of my favorite anime. I loved the existential, time-loop terror of Higurashi When They Cry, and I can’t get enough of the Final Destination-inspired Another.

Our own Mary Beth McAndrews even sat down with Solo Leveling voice actor Aleks Le to discuss the series, “a gnarly adaptation that feels like modern-day Japan meets Dark Souls.” The latest sensation is undoubtedly Ninja Kamui, an original anime series produced by E&H Production and Sola Entertainment.

You can now stream the show on Max where its uber-violence and gorgeous carnage have topped the charts.

Per Max: A former ninja’s search for vengeance unites him with the FBI agents who are investigating the murder of his wife and son.

Did you watch the trailer? Watch it again. Tell me you don’t want to watch that. If the trailer doesn’t sell you, know the series is directed by Sunghoo Park, director of The God of High School, Jujutsu Kaisen’s first season and prequel film, Jujutsu Kaisen 0. That’s a resume right there.

The series has been going strong on Max since its premiere, captivating audiences with its gore, its lore, and its stellar animation. Naturally, the internet can’t get enough, and they’ve taken to Twitter to share their thoughts. Check out some choice reactions below:

Since Ninja Kamui isn’t based on either a manga or light novel series, the show could theoretically run for as long as it wanted. While no second season has been announced as of yet, its performance on Max no doubt suggests we’ll be hearing something soon.

What do you think? Have you had a chance to check out Ninja Kamui yet? Was it everything you hoped for? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins where I’ll be tweeting about Haikyu!! because sometimes I need a break from all the violence.
