Strange, ancient magic proving to mere mortals that there are things far beyond their control or understanding is a top-tier subgenre and has created some of the most timeless horror classics, from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to The VVitch. But why is it still so popular and how has it endured across the decades? I turned to the experts to find out.

I spoke with producer Elise Salomon, writer/director Mary Alice Wolfszahn (Mother Superior), and Black Mansion founder Heather Buckley to discuss their shared love of folk horror, why the subgenre endures, and some exciting new projects coming from the Black Mansion team!
