In Order of Disappearance - Hans Petter MolandNorwegian writer/director Hans Petter Moland’s In Order of Disappearance recently screened at Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, where Moland won Best Director in the Fest’s “Gutbuster Comedy Features” category.

We caught up with him a few months earlier at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival to discuss the film’s genesis and long period of gestation as well as the reasoning behind his unusual creative choice to present the film’s bleakly impressive body count in such a darkly comedic way.

In Order of Disappearance (Kraftidioten) stars Stellan Skarsgård and Bruno Ganz.

Synopsis
Against the frigid wastes of Norway, an upstanding working man (Skarsgård) seeks revenge for the murder of his son and triggers a war between two gangsters that escalates in an ever-growing cycle of violence. Driven by grief and a thirst for justice, this simple, law-abiding citizen takes on the two warring factions of hardened, professional criminals by himself. The film’s grim violence is balanced with a wry sense of humor that in no way undermines the seriousness of its themes.
