Titan’s Nightmare Before Christmas: Day 5 – Colorist Guilia Brusco on Bringing Hook Jaw to Life

Today we have another treat to share in our “Nightmare Before Christmas” series with Titan Comics: Colorist Guilia Brusco shares her process of bringing Hook Jaw to life in Issue #1 of the comic series, which goes on sale December 14th.

Brusco explains, “The first five pages of this story to me were mostly about communicating a sense of drama and to provide clear storytelling. Specifically, they were about introducing Hook Jaw’s dangerous presence bathed into murky darkness of the first two pages vs. the quest for knowledge and understanding of the oceanographers in the three pages that follow and more.”

“I set the latest series in daylight as per the script,” she continues, “but I deliberately chose a bright, nearly cheerful palette to highlight the positive value of the lot our heroine will stem from. This also works well to create a clear space/time demarcation. Later in the issue, and in future issues as the story unfolds, the atmosphere will likely become more muted and anguished. I sense lots of scarlet red coming.”

Of course for horror fans, red is our favorite color, so we’ll be all over this one when it comes out later this month! Check out a few sample pages of Brusco’s technique below along with the various covers that will be available, and look for our final “Nightmare” early next week!

Hook Jaw #1 (of 5) is written by Si Spurrier with art by Conor Boyle and colors by Guilia Brusco. Pre-orders are available now from TFAW.

Synopsis:
