I Like To Watch: 7 Horny Found Footage Horror Movies For Voyeurs

found footage VHS

Sex and horror are very close friends. From bare-chested women to way-too-horny teens, horror is chock-full of pheromones. But one subgenre that you would expect to lean into the horny side of horror but doesn’t fully commit is found footage. The handheld camera technique is perfect for toeing that line with sexuality, yet its potential hasn’t been fully realized.

Importantly, I use the word horny to not necessarily describe the feelings that come up while watching the films. Rather, it’s the ethos behind the movies, and how they play with the idea that being horny is not always a good thing. In fact, many of these movies look at the punishment of the voyeur. They play with preconceived notions of pleasure on screen and destroy it in the blink of an eye.

Thankfully, a few films have tapped into the strange opportunities found footage can offer when it comes to creating a movie that is both off-puttingly horny and scary. Read on for a list of the uncomfortably horniest found footage movies available.

Capture Kill Release

This film is the most explicitly horny of the bunch. It’s also one of the only found footage films to really lean into the amateur porn aesthetic for a consensual sex scene. The film follows Jennifer and Farhang, a couple looking to murder someone together as the ultimate act of romance. At one point they’re discussing how to cut a person up in a bathtub and get turned on just talking about it. You know, just couple things. Unlike a lot of found footage that cuts away from sex, Capture Kill Release puts it front and center. It’s not exploitative and is actually focused on pleasure for both parties. You love to see it.

Crone Wood

This found footage folk horror plays with gazes and voyeurism in a way I’ve never seen the subgenre do before. Following the longest first date ever, a new couple goes camping in reportedly haunted woods. At first, it follows the typical found footage beats of a man hiding a camera to secretly record their sex then the woman discovers it. While she is at first enraged, the film transitions to her taking the camera and initiating sex. Even more, she takes the camera and starts filming him. She reclaims sexual power and puts the man in a vulnerable position. This sets up an even more fascinating sexual dynamic later in the film, which you have to see to fully appreciate.

Lucky Bastard

Lucky Bastard is one of the only found footage films to use the adult entertainment industry as its focus. In the film, Mike runs a website that invites fans to have sex with their favorite porn stars. Loner Dave wins one of their contests and comes to a shoot to meet Ashley Saint. But as soon as he arrives on set the vibes are off. What starts off as an amateur porn shoot descends into utter, bloody madness.

Project X

This one is where the sexuality in found footage veers into discomfort as we’re offered a look into the mindset of horny teenagers who just want to party. Three teens want to leave their mark on their graduating class, so they throw a massive party. At that party are booze, drugs, and lots of girls. And what do teenage boys love more than girls? It’s an uncomfortable look at teenage sexuality and the lengths we’ll go to in the name of being remembered.

JeruZalem

While Google Glass found footage JeruZalem becomes a Biblical apocalypse movie, it starts off as a pheromone-fueled trip to Jerusalem for two girlfriends. The trip, documented through Google Glass, shows two girls who reroute their Tel Aviv trip to Jerusalem after meeting a hottie on the plane. Yes, the whole film is motivated by sexual attraction. Their trip is full of food, fun, and boys. Until the apocalypse starts. Nothing ruins your vibe like an apocalypse.

V/H/S segment “Amateur Night”

David Bruckner’s segment “Amateur Night” in the first V/H/S film is one of the series’ best. Three young men go out with the explicit intention of hooking up with drunk girls and recording it all via a tiny camera in a pair of glasses. It’s a classic Peeping Tom tale with a more sinister, contemporary twist. One of the women they meet is quiet and a bit strange, but takes a liking to one of them. As they all head back to the boys’ hotel room, a night of sex and debauchery turns bloody as the strange young woman reveals her true form. It’s an incredible critique of toxic masculinity and rape culture through a nasty creature feature.

Be My Cat

If you want a movie that is simultaneously horny and downright upsetting, then Be My Cat is for you! It follows a man trying to prove his love to Anne Hathaway by casting lookalikes to show Anne what his film will look like. It’s a movie spurred by a deep obsession that does involve sex, but in a horrific way that, for most, is void of any legitimate attraction.
