Michael Sheen Becoming the Green River Killer

Gary Ridgway, dubbed the Green River Killer, was convicted of nearly 50 murders and confessed to double that amount, which makes him the most prolific serial killer in American history. A horrifying claim to fame, to say the very least. Now, 15 years after Ridgway’s arrest, a movie is on the way.

Deadline reports that actor Michael Sheen (“Masters of Sex”) will make his directorial debut with Green River Killer, an adaptation of Dark Horse Entertainment’s same-named graphic novel. Sheen will bring his own 2015 Black List script to the screen, and he will also be playing Gary Ridgway.

The film tells the story of police detective Tom Jensen, who spent 20 years looking for the notorious Green River Killer, and Ridgway, the man he eventually caught. Rideway was arrested in 2001 thanks to DNA evidence and is currently serving life in prison with the chance of parole.

This is a dark story but one that ultimately finds hope and meaning in that darkness,” Sheen said. “The story of Tom and Gary, and how they are bound together in time, pulled me in from the beginning and wouldn’t let go. I hope that by now bringing it to life on screen, it can make audiences feel the same way.”

Green River Killer will be produced by Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg, Sheen, and QC Entertainment’s Sean McKittrick and Ray Mansfield. QC Entertainments’s Edward Hamm, Jr., and Shaun Redick will serve as EPs.
