Winners Announced for 2011 Flickers RI International Horror Film Festival

Check out Rhode Island getting its horror groove on! Not only did this past weekend see the wide release of the new Robert Englund film Inkubus, which was created by an all Rhode Island crew, but now we’ve got the results of the area’s 12th annual horror film festival. Nice job, Ocean Staters!

Featuring 42 films from around the world (selected from 383 entrants), the 2011 Flickers RI International Horror Film Festival braved the recent Northeastern snow assault and put on a great four-day festival. Here’s some info on the event and the proud list of winners. Congrats!

The eerie, macabre and bizarre in the world of cinema were given their due with the wrap of the Twelfth Annual Flickers RI International Horror Film Festival through adjudicated awards. From an entry base of 383 submissions including work from the United Kingdom, Australia, Ireland, Canada, Germany, Italy and the United States, 42 films were screened during the cinematic symphony of horror, October 27th-30th. Attending this year were the cast and crew from eight of the international films screened during the Festival including Imposter, Vampyre Compendium, Beg, Inkubus, and Last Seen on Delores Street for their premieres along with directors and producers Marc Masciandaro, Matteo Bernardini from Italy, Devi Snively, Augustin Fuentes, and Kevin and Shanna MacDonald.

“This was an exceptionally strong year for entries with films, not just coming from the United States but from across the globe,” said George T. Marshall, the Executive Director of the Rhode Island International Film Festival, which produces the Horror Festival sidebar. “It’s startling to see an Italian or German take on our Halloween traditions then realize how film and global communication has made the world a much smaller place.”

Despite rain, snow and even power outages, the Festival drew crowds across the state from the opening night Spooktacular at the Bell Street Chapel in Providence to the Mary Tefft White Cultural Center at Roger Williams University in Bristol for the program “Behind the Camera Lens,” which featured actor William Forsythe and members of the cast and crew of the locally produced Inkubus.
