Serial Box’s EXQUISITE CORPSE Assembling 10 Authors for One Full Day of Terror

Exquisite Corpse is an old school party game where creative minds produce an original story collaboratively, expanding and enhancing on each other’s ideas. Now, Serial Box (a platform NPR called “the HBO of reading”) is assembling 10 of today’s best horror authors for an epic session of Exquisite Corpse that will be released live and in its entirety on October 19th.

Here’s the full scoop on Serial Box’s Exquisite Corpse event, including the participating authors.

Serial Box recently announced an exciting and horrifying literary event (Friday, October 19 from 11 am ET to 8 pm ET) with a new take on this old school parlour game. Serial Box’s Exquisite Corpse features some of today’s brightest horror stars, including Christopher Golden (Snowblind); Cassandra Khaw (Hammers on Bone); Paul Cornell (Witches of Litchford); Brian Keene (The Rising Series); Alyssa Wong (Hungry Daughter of Starving Mothers), and many more. You can see the full roster here.

Everyone from Agatha Christie to Rick and Morty to Slender Man has played exquisite corpse, a game in which a story is collectively assembled by multiple players who each continue the tale by picking up where the previous author left off.

Rather than a simple pub date, this will be a multimedia storytelling event celebrating Halloween, horror, and the talents of nearly a dozen amazing authors. Taking place on Friday, October 19 between 11 am EST and 8 pm EST, we’ll release one episode every hour (approx 1,000 words, or 6-12 minutes to read), all completely free in ebook and audio, which will be recorded in binaural sound — a 2 microphone set up that allows for spooky soundscapes in 3D — on the Serial Box website and iOS app. Readers can subscribe to this email list, which will provide exclusive goodies and promotions (think signed books, stickers, promo codes) every hour on the hour throughout release day.

The prompt for Exquisite Corpse was provided by Dread Central: “With only a few days left until the big gallery opening, you’re struggling to finish your final pieces. However, it’s not lack of inspiration but rather dwindling supplies that’s holding you back. The problem is that your art uses rather…unorthodox materials.”
