The WTF Friday Video of the Week: Dog Police

Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away there was a channel called MTV that actually ran music videos 24 hours a day. Hard as it may be to believe, there used to be a time when Music Video Television actually ran music videos and not just TV shows about skanks and idiots. Such a time was 1985, the year that brought us “Dog Police” by the band Dog Police, one of the most hilariously weird music videos of all time.
MTV had a show back in the day called “Basement Tapes” that ran videos by unsigned bands. “Dog Police” placed second in a competition “Basement Tapes” held for best amateur video. How it did not win is hard to fathom as this amateur music video has better make-up effects than most of today’s b-movies. It’s a song and a video about a guy on a date with a woman who’s a dog, literally, and the law enforcement specialists that deal with guys that date such dogs, or something like that. Just watch for yourself. The new wave band Dog Police are pretty much known for this one self-titled video and that’s about it. But what a video to be remembered for.
