“Wanna see something REALLY scary?”
To horror fans who came of age in the 1980s, the line above instantly evokes memories of Dan Aykroyd and Albert Brooks in the opening scene from Twilight Zone: The Movie. Now, on a bi-monthly basis, I’ll be asking, “Wanna see something REALLY scary?” with the goal of shocking you with chilling footage plumbed from the darkest corners of YouTube.
Last week, residents in Orange County, California had their television programming interrupted by a test of The Emergency Broadcast System. While this fact alone is not unusual, the audio that accompanied the normal tone and black screen was nothing short of alarming; some actually recorded what they were seeing and hearing.
In the first video below, you can hear someone ranting desperately about the government and Area 51: “The space program made contact with… They are not what they claim to be. They have infiltrated a lot of, uh, a lot of aspects of military establishment, particularly Area 51. The disasters that are coming—the military—I’m sorry the government knows about them…”

In this next video, you can hear the apocalyptic ravings of a mad preacher; have a look/listen:
The sources of the audio in these videos have been identified; the first is from a call received by paranormal researcher and conspiracy theorist Art Bell on his syndicated talk show and the second was culled from the Christian radio program Insight for Living with Chuck Swindoll. So, while it would appear these broadcasts were hoaxes perpetrated by digital hackers, one can only imagine how unnerving it was to be watching TV, only to have these doomsday messages interrupt out of nowhere!
Wanna see something REALLY scary?
If you’re ever watching CNN and you see the video below, it’s time to literally kiss your ass goodbye. When Ted Turner purchased the network in 1980, he famously exclaimed, “We won’t be signing off until the world ends. We’ll be on, and we will cover the end of the world live, and that will be our last event.” To that end, Turner commission the video below with instructions that it be played on a loop before CNN goes off the air for the very last time.
The video was unearthed by an intern in 2009 and has been confirmed to be 100% authentic. With geopolitical tensions rising and natural disasters ravaging the planet, let’s hope we never see this on TV during our lifetimes!
