It’s not often fans of film can go and walk the actual steps the characters in their favorite films did. Most of the time movies are shot on sets that disappear as soon as the filming is complete. So when a film (especially a classic like Dawn of the Dead) is shot in a place where fans can actual go, walk around and check things out without fear of a trespassing violation, you can bet they’re going to show up. And that attraction to the Monroeville Mall, the filming site of George A. Romero’s classic film, is the subject for the upcoming documentary, Cinemall.

Brought to us by Room 237 Productions, Cinemall is a 35-minute film created by Gavin Shaw and Craig Belliveau. The documentary contains interviews with a variety of individuals (both locals and fans) about the crowds of people who make the pilgrimage to the Monroeville Mall every year. Cinemall even has an interview with Romero, creator of Dawn of the Dead. The film will be premiering on February 3 in Toronto as part of the Projection Booth Discoveries film series.

Synopsis
Cinemall is a documentary about the ultimate movie location. The Monroeville Mall is located 12 miles outside of Pittsburgh, PA. Every year hundreds of movie fans from around the world make a pilgrimage to visit the mall ever since it “starred” in George A. Romero’s 1978 zombie classic Dawn of the Dead The line between fantasy and reality is obscured as they retrace the footsteps of the characters within the movie, and look for places where the action took place. When they enter the mall… they enter the movie.
