Stan Winston Studios Shares New Behind-the-Scenes Footage of 1987s PREDATOR

The Shane Black’s Predator reboot, The Predator, is receiving mixed reviews. Still, the new movie has caused a resurgence in popularity for all past Predator installments, especially the original, directed by John McTiernan and released in 1987. To that end, Stan Winston Studios, the creative force behind Predator’s iconic creature design, has just released some previously unseen behind-the-scenes footage that’s a must-watch for fans of the franchise.

In addition to showing actor Kevin Peter Hall’s transformation into the iconic Yautja, the footage includes a look at the original, scrapped creature design (worn by Jean-Claude Van Damme, who was replaced by Hall). Among other interesting facts, the video reveals that Stan Winston Studios only had six weeks to produce the iconic monster.

Give it a spin below, followed by the synopsis and trailer for The Predator, currently playing in theater’s nationwide.

Synopsis:
From the outer reaches of space to the small-town streets of suburbia, the hunt comes home. The universe’s most lethal hunters are stronger, smarter and deadlier than ever before, having genetically upgraded themselves with DNA from other species. When a boy accidentally triggers their return to Earth, only a ragtag crew of ex-soldiers and an evolutionary biologist can prevent the end of the human race.

The Predator’s sizable ensemble cast includes Thomas Jane, Jake Busey, Trevante Rhodes, Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Augusto Aguilera. Edward James Olmos participated in the production, but his character was completely axed in favor of a concise runtime. Black co-wrote the screenplay for The Predator with Fred Dekker (Night of the Creeps, The Monster Squad).
