Call this writer the eternal optimist, but I had high hopes when the first Ghost Rider hit theaters back in 2007. Of course those hopes were quickly dashed once I saw the film, but regardless of how well it did, there were two things clear from the start- Nicolas Cage relishes being a badass, and he was practically born to play this role.

It definitely seems like the second time might be the charm for this franchise because everything we’ve seen so far, including during the 2011 San Diego Comic-Con, for the upcoming Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance looks like the directing duo of Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor (the maniacal geniuses behind the Crank series) have finally gotten the badass formula right in bringing the story of Johnny Blaze to life, and in glorious 3D to boot.

While at SDCC last week, Dread Central’s Buz Wallick had the opportunity to check out the press conference for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, and we’ve got all the good stuff right here for you in our coverage below. Check out our video that features Neveldine, Taylor and Cage joined by actors Johnny Whitworth (“Blackout”) and Idris Elba chatting with a packed press room about what kind of insanity and carnage everyone has cooked up for fans in the mind-blowing sequel.

And of course, Cage’s hair makes an appearance, too. Look for more on Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance soon!
