WONKA: New Willy Wonka Has Finally Been Cast!

Move over Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, Timothee Chalamet (Dune) is set to star in Warner Bros’ upcoming Willy Wonka origin story, Wonka.

Plot details are under wraps, but we do know the movie is based on characters created by Roald Dahl and will focus on a young Wonka and his adventures prior to opening the world’s most famous chocolate factory.

Charlie Bucket will not be featured.

Deadline reports Wonka will mark the first time Chalamet gets to show off his singing and dancing skills with several musical numbers set to appear in the film.

Paul King will direct from the screenplay he wrote with Simon Farnaby (with prior writers including Simon Rich, Simon Stephenson, Jeff Nathanson, and Steven Levenson). David Heyman is producing with Luke Kelly. Michael Siegel executive producing.

Menawhile, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory will be released on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and also Digital on June 29th. 

Synopsis:
Directed by Mel Stuart and starring Gene Wilder as the legendary Candy Man Willy Wonka, this splendiferous movie brings to the screen the endlessly appetizing delights of Roald Dahl’s cherished book. Coated with flavorful tunes and production designs that are a visual treat for the eyes, this effervescent musical never fails to enchant young and old.
