In anticipation of the May 14th release of Spiral: From the Book of Saw, director Darren Lynn Bousman also participated in a SAWathon!

In addition to Spiral, Bousman has directed Saw II, Saw III, and Saw IV. Meaning he’s a vast wellspring of the franchise’s history. For yesterday’s marathon, the filmmaker re-watched and also live-tweeted about several of the Saw films that proceed Spiral! Obviously, it was nonstop excitement, with Bousman offering tons of incredible (and often humorous) insights!

Synopsis:
A criminal mastermind unleashes a twisted form of justice in Spiral, the terrifying new chapter from the book of Saw. Working in the shadow of his father, an esteemed police veteran (Samuel L. Jackson), brash Detective Ezekiel “Zeke” Banks (Rock) and also his rookie partner (Max Minghella) take charge of a grisly investigation into murders that are eerily reminiscent of the city’s gruesome past. Unwittingly entrapped in a deepening mystery, Zeke also finds himself at the center of the killer’s morbid game.

Darren Lynn Bousman directs Spiral: From the Book of Saw from a screenplay written by Josh Stolberg and also Peter Goldfinger from a story by Chris Rock. Based on the original film by James Wan (The Conjuring) and also Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man).

More fun Saw 2 trivia. I was a huge new kids on the block fan. On the first day of set I wore a new kids on the block T-shirt. But I was instructed to take it off immediately. Donnie did not find it amusing.

About Saw III

SAW III has always been the favorite of my original three Saw films. Unfortunately SPIRAL now takes that honor. However, I will always love what we were able to pull off with John Kramer and Amanda’s relationship. Saw III is a love story. #SAWathon

Angus MacFadyen quit the movie after the pig trap scene. In all fairness it was completely my fault. I told him he wouldn’t get sprayed with pig guts then I proceeded to spray him with pig guts. I had to talk him in to coming back. Now we are friends. #SAWathon

Saw III trivia. I had to call @RobZombie and ask for help with the MPAA. Saw III received the NC-17 half a dozen times. Rob gave me advice on how to get that R. The only movie I had more trouble getting the R on was… SPIRAL. #SAWathon
