Scream Factory Continues to Crush It with The Crush on Blu-ray

Long before movies of this nature became regular staples of Lifetime Network broadcasting, there was The Crush, a 1993 thriller about psychotic jailbait that Scream Factory is plucking from near obscurity to give the Blu-ray treatment this summer.

The Crush is best known as the feature film debut of Alicia Silverstone. The future Clueless star plays a mentally unstable 14-year-old who develops an unhealthy crush on the thirty-something journalist (future Saw victim Cary Elwes) who moves in next door. She sets out to destroy his life and everyone else that gets in her way when he spurns her advances.

Jennifer Rubin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors), Kurtwood Smith (Robocop and “That 70’s Show”), and future “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” co-star Ashley Benson also appear in this suspense thriller from writer-director Alan Shapiro (Flipper).

Scream Factory has announced The Crush will be getting the Blu-ray treatment on June 21st. Extras will be announced later this spring.

There was a whole slew of similar “(BLANK) from hell” movies that sprung up during this early Nineties time period post-Fatal Attraction that are still awaiting hi-def upgrades. Could The Hand that Rocks the Cradle (nanny from hell), The Temp (secretary from hell), Unlawful Entry (cop from hell), or Single White Female (roommate from hell) be next? And let’s not even forget the Poison Ivy trilogy.

Keep crushin’ it, Scream Factory!
