The Buffalo Screams Horror Film Festival will honor artist Tony Mauro for his achievements as a movie poster artist at its second annual festival and has also added special make-up effects artist Rod Durick to its guest lineup. Buffalo Screams runs five days, from Wednesday, October 26th, through Sunday, October 30th, at the Screening Room Cinema Café, located in the Northtown Plaza on Sheridan Drive in Amherst, New York.

From the Press Release:
While working in Hollywood, Mauro created the posters for such studio films as Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Friday Night Lights, and Zodiac. His genre credits include Black Christmas, The Village, Ang Lee’s The Hulk, Lady in the Water, The Covenant, The Chronicles of Narnia, and The Beckoning. Mauro returned to his home town of Buffalo to concentrate on his fantasy art, including book covers.

Durick was the special make-up effects supervisor on Slime City Massacre and The Final Night and Day. His instructional filmmaking book Filming the Undead: How to Make Your Own Zombie Movie was just published by Barron’s, and he recently directed his first short film, A Change of Plans, for Buffalo’s 48-Hour Film Project.

“Our goal is twofold: to bring the best horror films in the word to Buffalo and to celebrate our own filmmaking community,” says Emil J. Novak, who founded Buffalo Screams with fellow filmmaker Gregory Lamberson. “Tony and Rod represent opposite ends of the filmmaking spectrum: Tony had a successful career designing posters for big Hollywood movies, and Rod is carving out his reputation in the niche world of indie horror films. We’ve got it all in Buffalo.”

Mauro and Durick join previously announced guests Roy Frumkes, who will screen Street Trash and The Definitive Document of the Dead, actress Melantha Blackthorne, and Paige Davis from the distributor Alternative Cinema. Buffalo Screams gets under way with a special 30th anniversary screening of The Burning. The deadline for film and screenplay submissions is September 15th.
