Short Documentary Explores the Disintegration of System of a Down

When System of a Down (abbreviated Soad) went on hiatus back in 2006, everyone involved swore it wasn’t a break up. Just some much needed (and earned) rest and relaxation after touring for over a decade and reaching the pinnacle of hard rock superstardom. In the decade-plus since their hiatus went into effect, however, legions of rabid fans are still waiting for new tunes. Unfortunately, we may be waiting for something that will never come to fruition.

In the documentary embedded above, our friends at Rock Feed dive deep into the history of System of a Down, concluding with an extensive examination of the band’s current status. While it still seems no one is ready to close the door on Soad altogether, creative and financial differences may prove insurmountable obstacles. Songwriters Serj Tankian and Daron Malakian can’t seem to get on the same page, leaving fans out in the cold as what was once a hiatus begins to look more and more like a swansong.
