After searching for just the right face and attitude, Variety reports that the decision of who will star opposite Mark Wahlberg in M. Night Shyamalan’s first R-rated feature, The Happening, has been made.
And the winner is? Zooey Deschanel! Please don’t ask me how to pronounce her first name; I really have no clue. But you can check out her MySpace page here. Deschanel’s previous credits include Bridge to Terabithia and Failure to Launch.
The Happening, you will recall, is about a family on the run after an apocalyptic crisis threatens to bring civilization as we know it to an end. What said crisis is remains unclear, though apparently it has something to do with plants. Shooting kicks in this August in, where else?, Philadelphia.
