It's no secret that we live in an insane world. The tells are everywhere. Each day signs pop up that point to Armageddon. To name a few:
Al Sharpton disses the upcoming Black Devil Doll (which incidentally will be premiering at Fear Fest 2) by saying, "Pity ... it’s a shame individuals in our society have regressed to such standards of racial lambasting in favor of lowest-common-denominator 'entertainment' for the mass public."
Despite there being a war going on, politicians seem more interested in whether or not super-size slugger, Roger "I lick my lips when I am lying" Clemens, juiced while playing baseball.
Rambo not being No. 1 at the box office in favor of Meet the Spartans.
And now this --
New.com.au reports that Wrong Turn 2: Dead End (review here) was screened for at least two underage sex offenders among other delinquents at a juvenile detention center in Australia by their recreation officer.
Oh, the damage that can be done to frail young psyches by watching a tongue-in-cheek slasher flick! Before you know it, they will be getting tattoos, smoking, masturbating, and listening to *gasp* rock music!
Former Children's Court magistrate Barbara Holborow said the officer ought to be sacked immediately. "Where do they get these people from? When you put a child into a detention centre it's not just to punish them, it's to rehabilitate and educate them," Ms. Holborow said. "How can you rehabilitate kids if you're going to show them filth like that. Whoever the person is, they should be sacked."
When reached for comment, Wrong Turn 2 director Joe Lynch had this to say:
"Although it seems that the unfortunate individuals involved have an impeccable taste in horror films, this was never intended to be shown in ANY correctional facility to emotionally fragile minds. Please be warned, "Wrong Turn 2" could influence one to engage in uncontrollable fits of cannibalism or mutant diddling, and is not meant for the easily impressionable ... or to be served with vegemite."
To which I would like to add ... HUZZAH!

Being an Australian I do have to say that I have actually watched Wrong Turn 2 whilst eating Vegemite and I have experiences no problems. Actually the Vegemite further enhanced the taste of the braised human ankle I had it spread on.

I can't wait to see Shawn's response to Sharpton.

Creepy, I totally agree. Wrong Turn 2 actually (for me) ranks right up there with Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and the fucking AWESOME Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. I have to say...Wrong Turn 2 was better than the first one (although it DID have Eliza Dushku...mmmm-mmmmmmm), and let's face it...Henry Rollins is THE MAN. Period.

Careful, Joe. Next time you step foot down under, you just might get "eaten by dingos" too!

I agree 100% BB, but these were kids in juvy, not in a psych ward. We'll never know the exact circumstances behind what the kids were in for, but that being said, Wrong Turn 2 despite it's gore is a pretty light-hearted affair.

I have this to say...while this is ultimately a slam against the beloved (and my personal fave subgenre- Slasher) genre, there are people in the world who cannot differentiate right and wrong...and these people should be monitored carefully when they're in an institution. It's really hard for me to say this to get my point across and not look like an anti-horror basher...some people really SHOULDN'T watch horror movies. There are those depraved psychos out there who don't really need any extra ideas. On a side note, I've personally always thought that horror [book/comic/movie] writers/directors also expressed their aggression through their work...I mean I've written a couple of stories about ways to ice some people via the slasher genre, and it was cathartic in MANY ways...kept me from killing people that really DESPERATELY needed it -- ala Dexter. Heh.

Oh perfect, more slamming on the genre. Just what we need.
