Will Barry Open the Box?

Mythology lovers like myself received some very interesting news today courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter.
20th Century Fox is in discussions with Barry Sonnenfeld, acclaimed director of the Men in Black and The Addams Family films and producer of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, to helm The Box, a modern take on the legend of Pandora’s Box. The relatively unknown Evan Spiliotopoulos has been tapped to draft the screenplay, which “centers on a college grad with an uncertain future who is tricked into opening the mythical box, unwittingly unleashing the evils trapped within. He then must team with Pandora to save the world from destruction.” The Box is being touted as a “summer event film”; I’m just praying that doesn’t mean a dumbed down action flick with a bunch of explosions.
The premise sounds intriguing enough, but the real test for me will be the casting. The character of Pandora provides some pretty big shoes for an actress to fill; I hope they get it right!
