Von Trier's Antichrist in Post; More Plot Details!
While doing a random check on the status of Lars von Trier’s Antichrist, we came across some intel that the film is now in post production and eyeballing a release date of September 11th, 2009, though it’s not clear if that’s in the U.S. or von Trier’s native Denmark.
We also found a much more detailed plot synopsis than what’s been out there before over at the official site for production house Zentropa. Dig:
[A couple] lose their little son, and the wife subsequently suffers from terrible anxiety attacks. Her husband is a therapist, and in spite of warnings not to treat people with whom you have close relations, they begin to tackle her fears together, and in the place where her anxiety is strongest: Eden, a deserted cabin in the woods.
The tough therapeutic struggle develops into a battle of the sexes. Her fears inhabit them both, and even he is not exempt from experiencing the merciless evil of nature. Natural brutality takes over and his cool reason is rendered futile. The evil in her runs wild.
In a press release announcing the start of the film, von Trier offered this cryptic welcome: “I would like to invite you for a tiny glimpse behind the curtain, a glimpse into the dark world of my imagination: into the nature of my fears, into the nature of Antichrist.”
Should be interesting to see what this filmmaking maven comes up with, especially working with Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg. Hopefully the wait won’t be long to see the results!
