Universal Helps Fund Park's Thirst

Chan-Wook Park's Thirst gets boost from UniNow this is the kind of news I like to end the week with! Variety reports this morning that Universal and Focus Features have jumped on board Old Boy director Chan-Wook Park’s Thirst, his vampire film that’s currently in production, putting in money and adding themselves as co-producers on the film.

When Thirst is done it will see a U.S. release via Focus, which means almost guaranteed theatrical play. For those who haven’t been following the film over the many years it’s been in development, Thirst tells the story of a priest whose participation in a medical experiment accidentally turns him into a vampire. As he struggles with what he has become, he falls into having an affair with the wife of his childhood friend, who’s bored with her mundane life. He sinks deeper and deeper into depravity as his humanity slowly withers away.

Up until now Korean major CJ Entertainment have been the sole source of bank behind Thirst; hopefully the addition of Universal will help make the production bigger and better.

Thirst is looking to roll out sometime in the middle of 2009; keep it here for all updates on the film!

Awesome!! As long as Uni learns from their PAN'S LABYRINTH example of staying the hell away from the film-maker and letting him just make his movie.
