Two Exclusive Offspring Stills

Andrew van den Houten’s “>Offspring is pretty close to the top of my list for most anticipated adaptations of 2009. The Jack Ketchum book on which it’s based is one of my favorites, and this story has been a long time coming to the big screen!

Van den Houten recently dropped us a line with some kind words and two exclusive shots from the film! ”As a fan of Dread Central and the awesome coverage they do for the horror genre, I am thrilled to release these two Offspring photos exclusively,” he told us. “Now that we are less than a month away from completing Offspring, we are excited to start building the buzz and spreading the word about the film anywhere and everywhere. ModernCine’s films heavily rely on the support of the fans first as we are a fully independently run company. The first screening for potential distributors will take place the first week in February, in both Los Angeles and New York, as well as at the Berlin Film Market.”

Of course we don’t have any solid details on that screening yet, but we were dropped a hint that we might be seeing some cool behind-the-scenes bits leading up to it. Van den Houten follows up ModernCine’s last adaptation of an “unfilmable” Ketchum novel, The Girl Next Door (DVD review here), this time taking the reins himself.

”I was thrilled to shoot and direct Offspring in Michigan and was amazed how we were able to double the state for Maine,” he continued. ” As a horror fan, it is so much fun producing a Ketchum novel into film once again. After doing Jack Ketchum’s The Girl Next Door, this couldn’t be more different. This is by far the most uniquely quirky, disturbing, and true to the genre film that I have ever made!”

Only a month to go before we can report on the results! Click on the below images to see them full sized, and keep it here for more updates!
