Man, I’m glad this came up during my shift cause I’ve been dying to talk about this movie for weeks. Now, if you click on the teaser image to your right for Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight, you may understand why.
MTV’s Movie Blog got the first look at the poster for Twilight today, and to say it looks like yet another pretentious vampire movie is understating. It actually looks like the ultimate pretentious vampire movie. And here I thought we were doing so well with 30 Days of Night and the like, but no, there’s still a market for emo bloodsuckers. Great.
The aforementioned blog also learned from the film’s poster designer, an 18-year-old kid named Joey Lawrence (no, not that Joey Lawrence) that he’s signed on to design posters for the inevitable Twilight sequels as well. Joy.
Hopefully I’m proven wrong and this ends up being a fun vampire flick, but so far there’ve been zero signs of that.
Talk about sad things, like immortality, in the Dread Central forums!

Ok...I have to say this:
If it came from MTV.com, why WOULD it be anything that would appeal to us?

"I made the mistake of trying to read the book, (a suggestion from a friend) - huge mistake! I made it through 5 pages, and gave up. So much whining. I was just going to compare this to Harry Potter - as a must see for those who read the series... and a friend just IM'd me, "I have to see it the lead male is from a harry potter movie" - WHY ME!!!"
You need new friends.

And the way they pull symbolism from their ass was funny, too.

The comments about the poster being deep make me weep for the MTV generation.

"Ha, the comments on the page that the poster is linked to is hilarious. I guess this is for a younger crowd, eh?"
Apparently. Even THEY use "Amazing" like it's going out of style. I guess when the time comes people can just ignore it instead of the typical complain, moan, pay, and complain about why they paid.

Another movie for the scrap yard.

So, Cash... how much time have you been spending cruising those 15-year old girls' Myspace pages, hmmmmm? ;-)

Looks like all those fat 15 year-old girls now have a new MySpace background.

Don't you dare come in here and try to quell my emo vampire rage with your "logic" and "reasoning", Messiahman! I won't stand for it!
Submitted by Johnny Butane on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 8:26pm.
Like WIB said, this is based on a series of young adult books strictly aimed at teenage girls -- the movie looks to be hewing closely to that demographic, and it's clearly NOT meant for the hardcore horror crowd.
For the crowd it's meant for, it looks perfectly fine.
No harm, no foul.
Submitted by Messiahman on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 7:49pm.
This looks horrible.
And I don't see how putting a picture with a title makes you a poster designer.
Submitted by Terminal on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 7:02pm.
I've got nothing against free-running. It was just an odd thing to see over and over in Blood & Chocolate. That chick was kicking off walls every time she was by one.
Submitted by Kryten Syxx on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 6:50pm.
Hey Kryten don't badmouth free running.
But seriously this looks terrible in every way, I thought vampires were going back to their roots of being scary undead monsters that nobody looks at romantically but I guess I was wrong.

What exactly did Joey do? Slap an existing promotional photo on a black background and import the film's title?
Submitted by Kryten Syxx on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 4:57pm.
An 18 year old kid designed this?
Makes sense.
Submitted by Chainsaw on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 4:38pm.
To be fair, the source material was targeted to "young adults," so there's no reason to think the film would be geared toward real grown-ups. Let the kids have their fun; there are plenty of vamp tales out there for the rest of us.
Submitted by The Woman In Black on Tue, 05/06/2008 - 4:36pm.
Oh well... it is being marketed for a very strict demographic, just like Blood & Chocolate. This time around we get tree-jumping instead of free-running! Can't wait to do a DFF for this one.
