The Road to Hell Leads to Fantastic Fest
One new project that we've been keeping close tabs on is Albert Pyun's Road to Hell, an "unofficial" sequel to the 1984 Walter Hill classic Streets of Fire. Creepy and I got our hands on a preliminary cut a couple of weeks ago and are awaiting a more finished version from Pyun and screenwriter Cynthia Curnan for review.
In the meantime, those of you who live in or around Austin, Texas, will have a chance to see it for yourselves ... along with its inspiration. On Monday, September 22, the good folks at Fantastic Fest will be debuting Road to Hell at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema immediately following a screening of Streets of Fire. I wouldn't be too surprised to see Pyun there also along with a few of the cast members.
They're still calling it a "work in progress", but from what I've seen, it definitely captures the retro vibe of Streets and carries on its highly stylized tradition with vivid surrealism and a healthy dose of over-the-top violence thrown into the mix.
We recently provided an updated list of genre films showing at the 2008 Fantastic Fest, which runs from September 18th-25th. The full rundown can be found at Fantastic Fest’s official site. If you've planning to attend, be sure to include Road to Hell on your agenda, and visit its official site, too, for more info!
