The Mummy Returns Returns

It’s been rumored for a long time now that eventually someone would bring us another Mummy movie, though God knows most of us didn't ask for one after The Mummy Returns failed to exactly set hearts and minds on fire, but then we’re not the ones in charge, are we? No... not yet...

Production Weekly is announcing that Brendan Fraser has signed on to try and bring his career back around again by reprising the role of swashbuckling Foreign Legion soldier Rick O'Connell for a third entry in the Mummy series. The script is by "Smallville" penners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and apparently an offer is out to Jurassic Park 3 helmer Joe Johnston to direct. Ah, damn, no Stephen Sommers this time out?

The story didn't mention anything about the plot for The Mummy 3, but I would guess it has something to do with the underfed Imhotep finding a way to come back to the land of the living for more wacky hijinks. We'll throw more at you as we learn it!
