Terminator Definitely Back!
While I know the Terminator films aren't technically "horror," they are much beloved and have enough genre elements that fans should be interested in this latest news from The Hollywood Reporter.
A recently formed production company called The Halcyon Co. has procured rights to the Terminator franchise and intends to move forward with a brand-new trilogy starting, as one might expect, with Terminator 4. The Halcyon deal, said to be in the tens of millions of dollars range, "includes the right to produce any future Terminator films, all future merchandising and licensing rights, certain future revenue derived from Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, as well as certain rights in the television project "The Sarah Connor Chronicles" and the sole right to produce all future Terminator projects in any new or existing media."
A script for T4 has already been penned by John D. Brancato and Michael Ferris, the duo responsible for such films as Primeval (review here) and T3: Rise of the Machines, and was part of the package. Jonathan Mostow was rumored to be attached to the project as director, but that was before Halcyon bought the rights from C2, so who knows if that will stick. No firm announcements have been made with regard to casting or storyline, but word is preproduction will start right away with the film to be ready for release in the first half of 2009.
All I want to know is if Schwarzenegger will be returning, even if it's just in a cameo role. Knowing his love for the camera, somehow I suspect he might.
