Dead Lorey's books in Sommers handsThough they’re dubbing them “fantasy novels”, you really can’t call a series of books Nightmare Academy and not expect us horror fans to pay attention.

Variety is reporting that Universal has picked up the rights to the first book, which was written by “Arrested Development” co-executive producer Dean Lorey (who also wrote Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday). The story is about a boy who realizes that his bad dreams have the unique ability to open portals between worlds and let monsters in. Sweet!

Mummy man Stephen Sommers is on board to produce only at this point, and I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I hope he doesn’t decide do more. I still have a bad taste in my mouth from Van Helsing
